Hair Restoration Program – THE NATURAL DOCTOR PRODUCTS
Normally, all of us shed about 50 to 100 of the more than 100,000 hairs on our head each day. But problems begin when too many follicles enter rest phase permanently or are damaged or killed. When this happens, our rate of replacement may not keep up, eventually causing our hair to thin out visibly. This excessive hair loss is called alopecia. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), or male pattern hair loss is a genetically determined progressive condition with various ages of onset and rates of progression. Although prevalence increases with age AGA is potentially reversible, particularly if treated early. In both men and women we know that androgens, especially dihydrotestosterone (DHT), have been shown to play a critical role in the hair loss process. DHT is the most potent of the circulating androgens in human plasma and a major testosterone metabolite in human skin.
Factors that cause Hair Loss in men and women
The problem is that DHT extends the telogen (non-growing) phase of the hair cycle. As a result, the growth cycle (anagen) is shorter and it cannot keep up with the loss of hair.
Combination therapies have been emerging as the treatment of choice for most dermatologists. It is clear that combining agents with different mechanisms of action works better for hair loss. Furthermore, evidence has been beginning to appear from experimental research in the lab that topical 5α-reductase inhibitors may provide additional benefit without side effects.
Before menopause 13% of women experience hair thinning compared to 37% that experience this after menopause. A further consideration for women as well as men is that often hair thinning is a symptom of estrogen dominance in women and estrogen excess in men and it can be helpful to redress this imbalance.
What can help hair loss naturally?
It is always a good idea to prevent further damage to the hair follicles by supplementing some key plant-based antioxidants. Low glutathione (one of the cells key innate anti-oxidant enzymes) accelerates the loss of hair follicles. This is why the Dr. E program has taken this into account.
One other factor that is important in the hair loss story is inflammation. One particular pro-inflammatory cytokine is TNF-a. When TNF-a is over-secreted in the sebaceous gland and hair follicles it causes rapid inflammation and hair loss. Certain nutrients act specifically on the TNF-a pathway including polyphenols from berries and grape seed extract. The latter also seem to be nitric oxide releasers, which is likely to be the reason for the benefits of minoxidil. Furthermore, proanthocyanidins (another family of polyphenols) act as growth stimulants for hair follicles.
Simple lifestyle changes such as reducing sugar intake can also help to lower inflammation. There is also some anecdotal evidence that when diabetics lower their insulin dose, their hair grows more abundantly.
It is also known that Folic Acid makes hair grow faster and helps prevent the greying of hair. B Vitamins are absolutely essential for thick hair. On this basis, you will find that Dr Eccles recommends nutrient complexes as part of the regimen. B vitamins also help reduce stress which can exacerbate weight loss.
Rosemary has been used for centuries to treat hair loss and is widely recommended by natural-health practitioners for stimulating hair growth. Rosemary applied topically can promote new cell growth in the scalp, at least in part by curbing the build-up of scalp oil (sebum), which can plug hair follicles. It is included in the Dr. E topical formulation specifically for this purpose. Rosemary also contains an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound called rosmarinic acid which recent research has shown to be a powerful tool in reducing age related damage to the body’s protein structures.
How does the Dr E Hair Restoration help hair loss?*
Because of Dr Eccles’ philosophy to use natural molecules where possible together with his expertise in natural hormone medicine, he has devised an exciting new program that brings together the key elements highlighted above to:
1) reduce DHT in the scalp
2) increase scalp circulation
3) reduce inflammation in the hair follicle.
In addition these are combined with a specialised light therapy apparatus. The latter device used alone has demonstrated a 35% increase in hair growth.*
The full Hair Loss program contains a topical lotion, oral supplementation and the light treatment for maximum results. Whilst all elements are recommended, if your budget does not allow, it is possible to access the Dr E products without the light therapy. The program has been designed for and is suitable for use by both men and women.
